The Santiago 2nd International Film Festival, SANFIC 2006 is a cultural, industrial film platform which is gaining a strong and privileged position in the city. The most recent and distinguished national and international productions converge here along with producers, directors, distributors, journalists, young actors, and the audience providing a unique, quality filled and current meeting place for Santiago and those who live here. The excellent results obtained at SANFIC 2005, that is, number of spectators, international guests, quality of the films shown, press coverage apart from the quantity and diversity of the activities related to it augur the start of a new era for Santiago, one in which it will become a national and international film referent and a window for Chilean culture to the world and vice versa. Within this framework, one of the main objectives is to complement and empower the emerging audiovisual Chilean film industry creating a space for its development and promotion. SANFIC is, as well, a window for premieres and international movie pre-releases of new productions by renowned movie directors and also by young talents. The second edition of SANFIC to be held this year includes an International Official Competition, Chilean, American, Asian, French, Cuban and German cinema as well as a complete International overview. The national film exhibition gathers a selection of works by prestigious film directors which marked milestones in the local cinematography. There will be open-air screenings, panels and conferences by outstanding people related to the national and international film industry, film making and culture universe. Lastly, there is a new section called National Talent in which there is a selection of national short films made by promising young talents of Chilean cinema. In conclusion, during the month of August, Chilean cinema has a platform which empowers it, Santiago has a party and the cinema it deserves and furthermore, Chile shows its identity. |
