Three decades ago, a young Arturo Ripstein interviewed political detainees
at the preventive jail in Mexico City, which was about to be
closed. The documentary Lecumberri, el palacio negro (Lecumberri,
the Black Palace, 1976) was born out of that material. Today, those
young guerrilla men have become veterans of politics and the director
of “Deep Crimson” revisits them to make a skeptic point. With
only the interview punctuated with archive images, Heroes and Time
lays bare the conflicts of a generation that once idealized revolutionary
socialism and today is pushing on sixty, both north and south of
the Latin American Equator. |

the story of a teenager from the upper class from Santa Cruz who
leaves her city to study in New York. The fourth one is about a young
afro-American who deals with racism and violence in her University.
Meanwhile the fifth story shows us a football player who lives the lie
of the perfect man. The five stories reflect the conflicts that today’s

The documentary follows the path that Lula himself has followed:
from Brazil’s northeast, where he was born on a very poor family
until becoming a President who has set big challenges to help his
country to recover. Between the wish of acting and the possibility of
doing it there is a little margin of error. This documentary proposes
to evaluate and light up that margin. Men and women from Brazil,
talk about their country and their President. |
